What Do You Want Your Grandchildren to Remember About Your Faith?

One day, your grandchildren may not remember every gift - but they will remember the prayers, Bible stories, and faith-filled moments you shared with them.

As Christian grandmothers, we want our grandkids to know Jesus and remember that they are loved - no matter what they do. We want to share about forgiveness and God’s mercy and grace.

Here are some Bible verses that you can share with them that are grounded in our faith.

*God loves you. Scripture speaks of God’s love for us over and over again. One of the most well-known verses, John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  This is a wonderful Bible verse to share and possibly ask them to memorize and share with you.

           Another verse to share is from Romans 8:38-39;

           For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depths, nor anything in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ  Jesus our Lord.

* We are to love God and love others. God gave Moses the Ten Commandments recorded in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21. The first four commandments deal with our relationship with God and the last six deal with our relationships with one another.

 In Matthew 22:37 -39 Jesus said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

*God created heaven and earth, and everything in it.  It is important for our grandkids to know that God created  everything. Sharing Genesis, chap.1 with them will help them understand creation.

*We are all made in God’s image. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  Genesis 1:27.  Another Bible verse that speaks to this is Ephesians 4:24: And to put on the new self, related after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

*Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. In John 14, Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?

            Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No

            One comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6

*We can pray about anything and everything.  Prayer is so important in our walk with God. Prayer is the way we communicate with God. We can teach our grandkids that prayers serve different purposes - not just to ask for things. Prayer is for praising God, for asking for forgiveness, for sharing about our lives, and also to ask God to answer our prayers. There are over 250 scriptures about prayer. Here are a few:

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

1 Chronicles 16:34

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. Psalm 9:1

”Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ  Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 - 18.
